Thread starter staybobo Start date Jan 31, Messages What pedals and rig are you using for Shoegaze? Pics if available. What Shoegaze band s or song s are your sounds based upon? Messages 14, Messages 4, I might add something else, like a Ricochet. But i dunno. Weirdly these kind of cover everything.

Incredible pedals! Boss Tremolo-It's not really traditional, but I like it just to add an interesting effect sometimes. Boss Digital Delay 7-While analog delays give you those eerie tones, digital delay just makes things sound insane. I like using this pedal to "flood" riffs with notes. It also does have a pretty decent analog emulation. Holy Grail Reverb-Haven't gotten it in the mail yet, but I'm looking forward to finally having some good reverb! I rarely have the drive above noon.

I always have the mid switch up though - Superfuzz for those noise freakouts or really trebly piercing moments - Devi Ever Torn's Peaker my favorite fuzz right now Scientist Cosmichorus great for that Cocteau Twins chorus sound or it can be used as a straight up vibrato It's all in the somewhat pejorative name bestowed upon this music by scoffing early-'90s British rock journalists; the bands in question were gazing at their shoes, busy operating their pedalboards.

Listening to some of these pioneering pedal maestros—such as My Bloody Valentine , Ride , and Swervedriver —is like a masterclass in guitar effects implementation, with swirling funnel clouds of distortion, pitch bending, delay, and reverb amassing into a perfect sonic storm somewhere near the crossroads of punk rock and psychedelia.

When looking at modern genres from post-rock to dream pop, an easy line can be connected back to shoegaze as the pioneer in creating oceans of sound with some switch stomps and knob turns. And in fact, many contemporary pedal builders have taken inspiration from the genre when crafting their circuits—sometimes throwing once-individual shoegaze effects together into multi-effect stompboxes of lush, cavernous warbles.

The shoegaze pioneers, of course, used the effects available to them at the time—which we discuss at length below. In our video above, however, Andy Martin shows how you can create a modern shoegaze pedalboard with these rich, well-built modern stompboxes.

He begins with one boutique multi-effect, the Old Blood Noise Endeavors Excess , which can combine a modulation and distortion thanks to its multiple circuits and parallel switching options. This post-reverb Muff not only adds yet more fuzz to the overall sound but also extends the reverb's tail in a unique and interesting way.

While that might be plenty for most genres, to really put you over the top for that dense, "are the walls bending? As the genre is one of sonic experimentation, feel free to experiment with different amounts of dirt both before and after your reverb. I really liked the Bit Mangler as well with the joystick control on it. It's just such a cool idea, it's clearly one of those pedals specifically designed to be dicked about with.

Shoegaze Effects DrKnocks Hey guys, i'm looking to get a shoegaze-y effect out my pedals, but im not sure how to get it from them, i have a Ehx double muff, Line 6 DL4 DoD Flanger and vesta fire chorus also on the DL4 how do i get it do warp my sounds like ive seen people do it with analog delay, but can it be done with the DL4, i got a weak sound just by messing with the delay speed..?

StevieK try putting the muff after a modulated delay or reverse delay, that should sound pretty crazy. Fran Its worth looking at the rigs of the main Shoegaze players. They dont come much better than StevieK Well some common themes there seem to be tremelos, dirt pedals, phaser, pitch effects, that digitech delay sampler, and digital rack mylti effects.
